Turning a Clunky Handbook Into Something People Actually Read

Client Type: Startup (Science/Tech Sector)
Project: Employee Handbook Review

The Situation:
The team had a 30+ page handbook that hadn’t been touched in over a year. It was legalistic, outdated, and didn’t reflect the company’s culture.

The Approach:
I read the entire handbook line by line, flagged outdated or unclear policies, and suggested edits that aligned with the team’s actual practices. I also recommended tone shifts to make it more people-friendly and compliant.

The Outcome:

  • Leadership had a clear list of what to update and why

  • The tone of the handbook became more human and aligned with company values

  • Employees were more likely to actually read and use it

“Jordan helped us translate our culture into a real, readable document — and made compliance feel a little less scary.”
